Second grader, Tommy has autism. It is hard for Tommy to understand what people mean when they talk. It is very hard for him to use words that would help others to understand him, but he is in a general classroom with a very understanding teacher.
Tommy likes things to be the same, to do everything in the same order each day. It upsets him if his schedule is changed. With help, understanding and a special visit, Tommy tries even harder to stay in control. Excellent for helping siblings and peers cope and become part of the team for Tommy.
Read this story with your class to help children grow in understanding of these special needs. The story realistically addresses some of the anxieties on Tommy's part as well as those of the children in his class.
