The Oregon Project for Visually Impaired and Blind Preschool Children (OR Project) materials are designed primarily for use by teachers or counselors working with visually impaired and blind preschool children and their parents in the home. The OR Project contains a manual, skills inventory, and descriptions of teaching activities. The manual contains an overview of the materials and specific instructions for using the skills inventory and teaching activities. The skills inventory is designed to assess each blind child, select teaching objectives, and record progress. The inventory lists 693 skills organized into six developmental areas (cognitive, language, self help, socialization, fine and gross motor) which are sequenced and arranged in age categories. Teaching activities for each of the 693 skills consisting of three to eight suggestions for the teacher or parent in either home or classroom setting are also provided. It is explained that the skills inventory and teaching activities guide the teacher and parent in planning an appropriate individualized educational program. (SBH)
