The Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF) is a questionnaire for parents and teachers of school-age students that assesses executive function behaviors in the home and school environments, which can be defined as (the ability to) inhibit, shift, emotional control, initiate, working memory, panning/organization of materials, and monitoring. It is designed for children ages 5-18 years for children with neurobiological impairments, including TBI. Materials consist of the manual, parent form, teacher form and scoring summary/profile form. There is also a self-report version available. The BRIEF can be administered and scored by educators, but should be interpreted by a professional with graduate training in school psychology, neuropsychology or clinical psychology.
