Title:Beginnings. Understanding Your Child’s Hearing Loss: A Guide for Parents—MN Department of Health (MDH) edited version, 2020
Author:MN Department of Health (Editor)
Resource Description
This resource is based on the original manual Understanding Your Child’s Hearing Loss: A Guide for Parents (https://ncbegin.org/product/understanding-your-childs-hearing-loss-a-guide-for-parents/), written by, and available for purchase through, BEGINNINGS for Parents of Children Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, Inc. (https://ncbegin.org/)
“The manual includes chapters on childhood hearing loss, resilience and acceptance, hearing technology, approaches to communication, early learning and education, resources and services, glossary terms and a brand new chapter on the transition process to adulthood!” (https://ncbegin.org/)
The MN Department of Health-edited version of the manual is provided by the MN Department of Health to families of young MN children recently identified with permanent hearing loss through clinical audiologists. The contents of the MDH-edited book are almost entirely the same as the September 2019 updated N.C. Beginnings organization’s manual. Through a contract between MDH and N.C. Beginnings, MDH EHDI staff and interagency partners were allowed to add MN-specific links and information that would be helpful to MN families. The MDH EHDI Follow-up Program has shared copies of the MDH-edited version of this resource with Regional EHDI Teams’ professional libraries for use by Regional EHDI Team members and other service providers as they support families.
